Description THE ORGANIZATION Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood
Settlement (Riis Settlement), a community-based non-profit
organization offering comprehensive services to the youth, adults,
seniors, immigrants and families of Western Queens, is dedicated to
civic engagement and organizing as integral to our mission “to
build and strengthen underserved communities and act as a catalyst
for change.” Job Summary Riis Settlement seeks an Intake and Data
Assistant to provide administrative support for our evening ESOL
program for adult immigrant students in Astoria, Jackson Heights,
and online. This is a short-term position for the spring class
cycle (April-June 2026). Primary duties will include registering
and testing new students and performing data entry in required
databases. The Intake and Data Assistant will work a hybrid
schedule, with in-person hours two evenings per week to assist with
intake for new students, and flexible remote hours to complete data
entry. This role works with members of the Immigrant Services team
to offer students the resources, opportunities, and support needed
to help them grow and achieve self-sufficiency. This is a part-time
position (up to 21 hours per week) with a hybrid schedule:
In-person - Two evenings 5:30-9 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday or
Thursday Remote - 14 remote hours with a flexible schedule This is
a three month, contract-based position available through June 30,
2026. Major Duties & Responsibilities Intake and Testing Be on-site
two evenings per week during ESOL classes at our sites in Astoria
and/or Jackson Heights on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday to assist
with student intake and testing Manage communications with
prospective students, including responding to inquiries, providing
information about programming, and scheduling registration
appointments Conduct intake and testing to register new students at
the start of each class cycle Conduct program orientations to
orient new students to class schedules, attendance policies, and
support services available Post-test students at the end of each
cycle to measure progress using the Best Plus 3.0 tes Data Entry
Record daily attendance for students. Collect and maintain program
documents required for contract reporting, including participant
intake forms, identification documents, attendance records,
progress notes, and testing reports. Perform timely data entry in
required spreadsheets and databases (DYCD Connect, NYC Rise),
including entering all participant intake forms, attendance,
testing data, monthly progress notes, and outcome/goal achievement
data. Assist Student Support Coordinator and Program Assistant with
data entry tasks, ask needed. Perform general administrative tasks,
including answering phones, emails, copying, and filing.
Qualifications Statement of Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: High
School diploma required, plus 1 year of relevant experience
Bilingual English/Spanish highly preferred (additional languages
are a plus) Experience in adult education and BEST Plus 3.0
certified preferred Strong computer skills with proficiency in
Microsoft Office and Google sheets Excellent interpersonal skills,
including oral and written communication Flexibility,
resourcefulness, and ability to work independently Positive
demeanor, welcoming attitude, and ability to interact with
participants from a variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds
Professional conduct that facilitates respect, trust, and
collaborative relationships with students and program staff Must be
available to work in-person two evenings per week on Tuesday,
Wednesday or Thursday in Astoria or Jackson Heights, Queens
