You will lead a team that drives the strategy development and execution of industry leading RWE generation for our Innovative Medicine pipeline and portfolio, with a focus on pre- and peri-launch assets. The VP Global RWE will also provide strategic and operational leadership to a high-performing RWE team and ensure continued talent development. This individual will work closely with the Chief Commercial Data Science Officer and will partner closely with the entire GCDS LT and other leaders in the Global Commercial Strategy Organization (GCSO) to optimize our global go-to-market launch planning strategies through innovative and highly strategic decisions and RWE investments. You will be responsible for:Major responsibilities include leveraging deep industry expertise and gaining critical cross-functional insight on opportunities for acceleration of RWE growth across GCSO and putting that strategy into action. Key partnerships include within the Global Commercial Data Science (GCDS) department with Data Science, Digital Health, Precision Medicine and Data, Platforms and Partnerships experts, across GCSO with the Disease Area Stronghold (DAS) teams, Global Medical Affairs, Global Market Access as well as outside GCSO including with R&D Data Science and Digital Health, Regional RWE, Market Access and US Real World Value & Evidence (RWV&E), Global Epidemiology, J&J Technology (JJT) Data Science, JJT, and others.The VP Global RWE will ensure alignment with regional/country RWE stakeholder strategies as part of Integrated Evidence Generation Plans (IEGPs) developing actionable RWE strategies. A close working relationship with the Global Market Access Analytics & RWE team will also be essential. This individual will interact regularly with other leaders across GCSO and the regional businesses in support of RWE initiatives and will be a member of the RWE Global Council.Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead global strategy development and execution of industry leading RWE capabilities and talent development.
  • Interact with and influence senior leadership across the organization on opportunities and investments in RWE that will provide key differentiation for our business growth through our IEGPs.
  • Demonstrate outstanding leadership by coaching, inspiring and developing the Global RWE Team, and RWE talent across the organization, to create a highly functioning RWE community and positive environment that is recognized inside and outside the company.
  • Develop key RWE-based insights on our early pipeline assets to drive global commercial strategies and create a competitive advantage by making better business decisions derived through strategic and patient-centric RWE approaches.
  • Develop the global strategy for the generation and utilization of RWE for our key pipeline assets including, for example, data-driven patient journeys and deep-understanding of unmet medical needs across all of our major markets.
  • Work closely within GCSO with Medical Affairs, Market Access and Commercial teams to develop the global strategies for optimal impact and the plans to execute on them.
  • Interface outside of GCSO with the regional businesses, US RWV&E, R&D, Global Epidemiology, JJT, legal, HCC and others in the development of the RWE strategy and guidelines for evidence generation and usage.
  • Effectively navigate technology, analytical, legal and privacy complexities to achieve objectives.
  • Maintain strong relationships with external partners including academics, professional societies, data/technology partners, patient groups, and other key external stakeholders.
  • Assess the financial implications and business case for RWE investments and help communicate overarching return on investment, business value drivers, success metrics, etc.
  • Be a technical leader for the RWE team by defining data, design and analytics strategies for high-quality research products.
  • Identify and scale best practices regarding RWE study methods.
  • Build and grow a diverse team of experts with deep RWE expertise and business acumen.Qualification / Requirements:Required Qualifications:
    • Master's degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, epidemiology, outcomes research, economics or related required. Ph.D., Pharm.D. and/or MD preferred.
    • At minimum of 12 years of relevant experience
    • Experience leading RWE in a medical affairs, market access, scientific affairs, commercial and/or R&D environment.
    • Expert recent knowledge in RWE, epidemiology, health economics and outcomes research, statistical and/or other quantitative methods and predictive modelling frameworks and techniques.
    • Outstanding leadership experience and a strong track record of building and leading high-functioning teams.
    • Prior global experience and/or ability to interface and work with global colleagues.
    • Strong and recent technical domain know-how to lead, coach and grow a team.
    • Demonstrated ability to influence in a large and matrixed organization.
    • Experience to develop, communicate, advocate and execute a strategy.
    • Proven experience in prioritizing and managing a complicated portfolio of projects.
    • Strong problem-solving skills with a solution-oriented mindset.
    • Recent expertise as a methodologist for observational studies (prospective and retrospective) from design through conduct, analysis and reporting.
    • Experience leading highly functioning RWE experts in a direct-reporting and matrixed-reporting manner.
    • Analytics expertise with claims databases and electronic medical (health) records.
    • Significant publication track record in epidemiology, clinical, statistical and/or health economic journals.
    • Experience fostering strong partnerships with academia, health systems and/or payers.
    • Excellent communication and training skills.Preferred Qualifications:
      • Experience in AI/ML applications in RWE.
      • Experience in working across global, regional and country markets
      • Firm understanding of the uses of evidence-based medicine and comparative effectiveness analyses for health policy decision-making.
      • Management of complex data and research partnerships.
      • Experience working in multiple therapeutic areas.Other:
        • The position is based in Raritan, NJ, with travel to other J&J Sites in NJ and PA. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.
