YOUR ROLE
- The packaging engineer is capable of managing primary and
secondary packaging development programs for a business unit.
- Is seen as an emerging subject matter expert in the field by
team members and serves as packaging technical lead on project
teams.
- Supports the packaging functional team with technical
expertise.
- Identifies and assesses moderately complex technical problems
and provides solutions and recommendations- knows when to seek
guidance and technical support from others.
- Manages assigned packaging projects in a proactive manner. Is
building technical leadership skills on the packaging functional
team by developing own technical competency.
- Provides clear technical direction for projects.
- May serve a technical mentor to packaging co-ops.
- Develops and designs new packaging for safe, convenient, and
attractive transport of products under a variety of
conditions.
- Develops packaging material standards and specifications.
- Reviews existing test methods and supports development of new
test methods where applicable.
- Evaluates packaging and transporting methods and procedures to
ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Evaluates and recommends efficient packing procedures,
innovations in packaging materials, and utilization of automation
where needed.
- Develops engineering drawings and specifications with suppliers
to determine materials and design required to maximize convenience,
utility and function based on the product's physical
characteristics, including safety and special-handling
requirements.
- Designs and coordinates laboratory tests plant trials to assess
technical feasibility in the qualification of new materials, and
equipment.
- Provides technical support to ensure quality standards, package
performance, and continued supply of products and packaging
materials.
- Participates on continuous improvement teams.
- May oversee the coordination of activities at contract
packaging and labeling sites.
- Oversees exterior package design to ensure proper product
identification, consumer appeal, printing appearance, and
production techniques.
YOUR SKILLS
- BS in Package Engineering or related technical discipline.
- Typical 1-3 years of direct experience in package engineering
projects.
- Ability to Execute projects on time and on budget with minimal
guidance from manager.
- Proactively anticipates issues and determines contingency
plans.
- Sets up realistic timelines and testing plans.
- Works well with cross functional partners to execute projects
with excellence.
- Tenaciously attacks programs. Is committed to achieving goals,
through obstacles, issues and surprises.
- Able to change direction quickly if needed.
- Sets high standards of performance.
- Is assertive and persistent in project work and
communication.
- Seen as becoming a technical expert in packaging.
- Technical background in Packaging, Packaging Systems.
- Solid understanding of materials, and packaging
applications.
- Able to solve moderately complex technical issues without
support.
- Communicates in a timely, concise and effective manner, both
written and verbally.
- Able to present to V.P. levels in the organization without
support from management.
- Active listener, interactive in meetings insuring POV is
expressed and understood by cross functional team members.
- Ability to act in an appropriate manner in varying business
situations.

initiatives and approaches.
- Able to rally cross functional peers to goal or action.
The salary for this role is $72,500.00 - $88,000.00 This is the
range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting
wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than
the posted range and this range. This salary range may also be
modified in the future.
